General Information

Course Enrolment

Enrolments are on a ‘first come, first served’ basis.  Prior enrolment is essential as most of our courses are oversubscribed.

To enrol on our course just: -

Phone - 01790 720000,

email – sharonh@vael.org.uk or kens@vael.org.uk

Should you require support with literacy or numeracy, feel that you may need specialist equipment, have a physical or learning disability please contact: (Ken Syrett or Sharon Hopkins on 01790 720000) in confidence who will be able to assist you.

Course Fees

Although all our courses are free to you we still incur a cost should you not attend.  Over the past year these costs have escalated to such a degree that we, unfortunately, have to ask you for a £15 holding deposit.  This deposit will be returned to you in full on attendance of the course.  Non attendance will, of course, mean a loss of this deposit in full.

There is a one-off VAEL registration fee of £2.50 payable at the start of your first course.  It does not matter if you take one or 21 courses you pay only once.

Course Cancellation

Voluntary Action East Lindsey makes every effort to run courses as advertised.  However, there is the very rare occasion, often due to sickness or lack of participants, where courses have to be cancelled.  If we have to cancel a course we will make every effort to find an alternative.  We will, of course, immediately refund any deposit paid.

Quality of Courses

VAEL sets very high standards for quality in all our courses.  All courses must meet the standards set by the Office for Standards in Education (OFSTED).  Classes are subject to observation to monitor that the required standards are being applied.

Recording Progress and Achievement

All participants on our courses will be required to complete a Personal Learning Record to enable you to track your progress through the course.  This will be done at the beginning of the course and reviewed during and at the end of the course.  Your tutor will support you in this process.

Complaints

Voluntary Action East Lindsey make every effort to provide you with the best possible learning experience.  We do realise that sometimes that this experience may not live up to you expectations.  Most concerns are dealt with, in the first instance, by the course tutor or with the Training Office.

If they cannot resolve the issue with you we have a Complaints Procedure – available here on our website (http://www.vael.org.uk/pdfs/Complaints%20procedure.pdf).

First ECDL certificates awarded at VAEL

March 10th saw the first ECDL awards at the new Voluntary Action East Lindsey British Computer Society accredited centre.  After 11 weeks of intensive training, Michael Stock and Chau Liu Chen (Renny) were awarded their certificates at a special ceremony to mark the occasion.  Both Renny and Michael said that they required the award to improve their employability status.

ECDL is designed specifically for those who wish to gain a benchmark qualification in computing to enable them to develop their ICT skills and enhance their career prospects.  ECDL, is the global standard in end-user computer skills, offering an internationally recognised certification that is supported by governments, computer societies, international organisations and commercial corporations worldwide.

VAEL wishes Renny and Michael all the very best for the future.
